NCRI Provisional Government Wins Backing Beyond 1,000 International Figures

A group of former heads of government, ministers, lawmakers, judges, diplomats and public figures has issued a statement backing the Iranian people’s push for a democratic republic and endorsing the National Council of Resistance of Iran’s proposed provisional government under Mrs. Maryam Rajavi’s Ten-Point Plan. The statement, titled Iran Stands at a Historic Crossroads, argues that Iran’s political future should be decided only by Iranians and their organized resistance, and rejects both the current clerical system and any return to monarchical rule.

The text describes the removal of Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei as a major turning point, but says any durable regime change “can only be achieved by the Iranian people and their organized resistance.” It welcomes the NCRI’s announcement of a provisional government aimed at transferring sovereignty to the public and establishing a democratic republic based on Mrs. Rajavi’s platform, which the statement says includes freedom of expression and assembly, separation of religion and state, gender equality, abolition of the death penalty, autonomy for oppressed nationalities within a united Iran, and a non-nuclear Iran. It also says the plan has already been endorsed by more than 4,000 legislators on both sides of the Atlantic.

The statement further says the NCRI does not seek foreign troops or financial assistance and is committed to holding free and fair elections within six months of the fall of the current system. It also supports the formation of a broader solidarity front bringing together political forces committed to overthrowing the regime and establishing a secular republic. The signatories say backing the NCRI’s provisional government and Mrs. Rajavi’s leadership is necessary for democracy and stability in Iran and for peace in the wider region.

The list of signatories includes former prime ministers and presidents from Poland, Costa Rica, Tunisia, Lithuania, Andorra, Italy, Slovenia, Romania, Estonia, Slovakia, Kosovo, Malta, Belgium and Yemen, alongside former ministers and officials from Europe, North America and the Middle East. It also includes current and former members of parliament, European lawmakers, former senior jurists, former U.N. and OSCE officials, Nobel laureates, academics, lawyers and civil society figures.
